Protecting Ownership of an Original Work

Published by aw2500 at 3:38 am under Writers Edit This

To provide legal protection, all of an author’s work should be copyrighted. Using the copyright legend is the best way to protect your work. As long you have placed the copyright legend on your work, federal law protects your work. What is a copyright legend, you ask? My next post will give several examples of legally acceptable copyright legends.

A word of caution—you cannot sue for copyright infringement unless your work carries the copyright legend AND you have registered your work with the U.S. Copyright Office. I will explain how to apply for a copyright in a future post.
